Rucantu is Selvadolce's Pigato Riserva made from 100% Pigato from the oldest vines, planted back in 1970, in Liguria, Italy. Textural, complex, and layered, this is a truly unique wine from a special part of the world. Wines like this remind us how important it is to seek out indigenous lesser-known varietals.

Emily says... 'Textural, complex and layered. A truly unique wine from a special part of the word. Wines like this remind me how important it is to seek out indigenous lesser known varietals.'

The estate is located in the Bordighera municipality and faces the most western part of the Ligurian sea. The heat of the sun of the Riviera is mitigated by a constant sea breeze that sometimes gives way to the impetuous Magistrale wind.

Grapes are harvested manually in boxes. A brief maceration with the skins, spontaneous fermentation, and ageing on the lees for at least 21 months in small durmast barrels. No filtration or clarification. An additional ageing of minimum 6 months in the bottles.

'Here at Selvadolce we believe that the only way to produce wine is to produce it in a natural manner... This way is the only one that we find interesting: working well in the vine, respecting nature and the plants, assist its transformation into wine, and making sure that nature does the best it can... Why produce it differently? It is this easy...'

What you get is a textured, complex white wine with layers of flavour and character. The combination of old vines, brief skin maceration, extended aging on lees in durmast barrels, and further bottle aging creates a wine that's genuinely distinctive and compelling. This is Pigato at its most serious and age-worthy.

Serve it cool (not cold) with rich fish dishes, seafood, poultry, creamy sauces, or aged cheeses. This is honest, soulful Ligurian white from a producer committed to natural winemaking and respecting nature, perfect for those looking for something truly unique and complex from an indigenous lesser-known varietal.
