Sfuso di Anna, Vino di Anna 2022

Vino di Anna is one of Sicily's most exciting wineries, working high up on the northern slopes of Mount Etna where the volcanic soils and altitude create conditions unlike anywhere else in Italy. Anna Martens and her team have been making wines here since 2010, focusing on indigenous varieties and minimal intervention winemaking.

Sfuso di Anna – 'Anna's bulk wine' – is their entry-level red, but that name undersells what's in the bottle. This is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, the two grapes that define Etna's red wines, made in a lighter, more approachable style than their single-vineyard bottlings.

What you get is pure, energetic Etna red – red berries, herbs, a touch of volcanic minerality, and that characteristic freshness that comes from high-altitude vineyards. It's light enough to serve slightly chilled, but has enough structure and character to work with food. Think of it as sitting somewhere between a Burgundy and a lighter Italian red.
