La Breña 1er, Comando G

La Breña is another of Comando G's single-vineyard wines from the Sierra de Gredos, made from old-vine Garnacha grown at high altitude on granite soils. Like all their '1er' bottlings, it's about showcasing a specific site and what makes it different from the others.

The vineyards here are steep, rocky, and largely forgotten – the kind of places that were abandoned decades ago because they're too difficult to work with machines. Fernando García and Daniel Landi have been rescuing these old parcels since 2008, farming them organically and proving that the Gredos can produce wines that stand alongside Spain's best.

What you get is pure, elegant Garnacha – red fruit, wild herbs, stony minerality, and that characteristic mountain freshness that keeps everything lifted and precise. There's structure and depth here, but it's all about finesse rather than power. The tannins are fine, the acidity is bright, and nothing feels heavy or overdone.

In the cellar, Comando G keeps things minimal – native yeasts, old barrels, no fining or filtration. The focus is on letting the fruit and the site express themselves without interference. La Breña does exactly that, showing the tension and energy that comes from high-altitude Garnacha grown on granite.

It's approachable now but has the balance to age. Serve it slightly cool and give it some air.
