Villa Calicantus Bardolino Superiore Avresir 2021

Avresir is Villa Calicantus' Riserva, the wine that can change the way of thinking about Bardolino wine. This is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara, and Sangiovese grapes from their best hill, about 2 km away from Lake Garda and 200 metres high. In Avresir, they sought the equilibrium between fineness, elegance, and complexity that can only be obtained from very high quality grapes.

'This is our Riserva, the only Bardolino aged for 2 years in wood. Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara and Sangiovese grapes from our best hill, about 2 km away from Lake Garda and 200 metres high. They are harvested at the end of September and are fermented in steel; the wine then ages for 2 years in wood and 1 year in the bottles. In Avresir, we sought the equilibrium between fineness, elegance and complexity that can only be obtained from very high quality grapes.'

Villa Calicantus is a biodynamic producer located in Bardolino on the shores of Lake Garda in Veneto, one of Italy's most stunning wine regions. Lake Garda, with its crystal-clear waters, dramatic mountain backdrop, and Mediterranean climate, is not only a beloved travel destination but also creates ideal conditions for viticulture. Here the influence of the lake is combined with the influence of the Alps creating an incredible microclimate that helps the grapes to ripen.

'The ultimate goal of Villa Calicantus is to demonstrate how Bardolino can (re)become a wine for aging if the grapes from which it derives come from suitable vineyards and if then the wine is respected in the cellar. Our vineyards are located in three very suitable areas of Bardolino, different for microclimate, soils and exposure. Each wine comes from only one of these three areas, and within these areas, each wine is assigned certain parcels. In this way, each wine will tell the intrinsic story of a vintage, in a specific vineyard, in a specific sub-area of Bardolino. In the cellar nothing is added except very low doses of sulfur, it is fermented with indigenous grape yeasts, it is decanted and bottled following the lunar cycles, it is not filtered and it is not clarified.'

Avresir is the only Bardolino aged 2 years in barrels, making it a truly exceptional expression of what this region can achieve. The extended aging creates layers of complexity while maintaining the fineness and elegance that defines great Bardolino.
