The Horsemen Red Rider Carignan 2018

Red Rider is The Horsemen's expression of 100% Carignan from Darling, South Africa. We have two wines from The Horsemen project – Pale Rider and Red Rider. The Red Rider is the richer of the two, it is full of fruit balanced with nice freshness.

The Horsemen takes its name from 'The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse'. Tremayne Smith makes two whites and two reds in this range. He chooses vineyards in some of South Africa's lesser-known regions such as Darling (where this wine comes from) and Paarl. He is one of South Africa's upcoming younger producers, who is also known for having quite striking monochromatic wine labels (they are designed by his friend who is a Tattoo Artist).

Darling is a lesser-known wine region on South Africa's west coast, known for its cool maritime climate and unique terroir. Carignan is a variety that thrives in this environment, producing wines with vibrant fruit character balanced by refreshing acidity. The Red Rider is the richer of the two wines in The Horsemen range – fuller-bodied and more fruit-forward than the lighter Pale Rider Grenache.
