Maremosso Catarratto 2022

Maremosso is an orange wine made from 100% organic Catarratto, where the grapes macerate on their skins for a week to extract colour, tannin, and texture. This is orange wine at its most approachable – fresh, vibrant, and full of character, showing what this indigenous Sicilian variety can do when it's treated with respect.

The Vesco family took over the Ciello winery 10 years ago and have since revolutionised the vineyard practices and invested heavily in cutting-edge technology for the winery and bottling line. Their hundred hectares of organic vineyards are located high up in the hills above Alcamo in Marsala, Sicily.

The vineyards are planted on south-east facing slopes on sandy soils at 150-300m above sea level, where the climate is well suited for producing the best quality grapes. Night harvesting and modern temperature-controlled fermentations result in bright, fresh wine. The wines are unfiltered and have a hazy appearance.

What you get is grapefruit pith, dried herbs, stone fruit, and that distinctive saline finish from the proximity to the sea. There's texture and grip from the skin contact, but nothing feels heavy or overdone. The wine remains fresh and vibrant, making it incredibly food-friendly.
