Bucephale is Domaine Ligas' expression of 100% Xinomavro from Pella, Greece. Xinomavro – in our opinion one of the most exciting Greek varietals. This wine is for the Nebbiolo or Nerello Mascalese lover. Aromatic, floral, and earthy with high acidity, generous tannin, and quite striking length. This is a wine for now but also a wine that will evolve beautifully over the next 5-10 years... or perhaps more.

Domaine Ligas is a small family winery working with biodynamic and permaculture in the vineyards. They are located in the historic region of Pella, which is close to the city of Thessaloniki. The winery was established in 1985 by Thomas Ligas (the father), who is now assisted by his daughter Meli. The wines are made with low intervention – there is no filtration or fining, no use of sulphur in any part of the winemaking. They work with a number of grape varietals that are indigenous to the area.

What you get is aromatic, floral, and earthy Xinomavro with high acidity, generous tannin, and striking length. This is serious Greek red wine that shares the structure and complexity of Nebbiolo or Nerello Mascalese – wines that demand attention and reward patience. The biodynamic farming and zero-intervention winemaking create a wine that's genuinely alive and expressive of the Pella terroir.
