Kydonitsa is an almost extinct varietal with very few vines left in Greece. This wine like the other Barrique wines from the domaine is a skin contact wine that is both made and aged in old oak barrels. This wine is aromatic and intense on the nose, displaying exotic fruit and florals. The palate is full bodied, textured and complex.
Domaine Ligas is a small family winery working with biodynamic and permaculture in the vineyards. They are located in the historic region of Pella, which is close to the city of Thessaloniki. The winery was established in 1985 but Thomas Ligas (the father), who is now assisted by his daughter Meli. The wines are made with low intervention, there is no filtration or fining, no use of sulphur in any part of the winemaking. They work with a number of grape varietals that are indigenous to the area.
