Gustinella 'Jungimmune' Rosso 2023

Perfumed, with notes of sweet spice, bright cherry and smokey minerality. 

Sonia's wines are a beautiful combination of purity, delicacy and mineral. 

The main grape variety in this wine is the Grenache, in the Granazzu dialect, present on this Etna side since the mid-1800s, brought from France to the time of the Ducea of Nelson, of which the village of Maletto was part.

Along with it, grapes from some centenary vines of Nerello Mascalese, Tinto are also harvested Black and other minor grape varieties not yet fully identified, which are commonly found in ancient Mixed vines of Maletto. The grapes are harvested by hand and gently crushed in steel vats where they remain to macerate on the skins for about 25 days. After de-sizing and a light pressing of the pomace, the wine is aged for about twelve months in steel, concrete and scythes followed by about eight months in the bottle.

“Are you the Granddaughter of Gustinello? Thus began my love affair with the vineyards of Maletto. All the elders who took part in my little wine adventure used to ask me this question to identify where I belonged. Because everyone knew Peppe Gustinello. 

In fact, my grandfather owned the town's Palmento, a sort of ancestor of the Cantina Sociale, which at harvest time transformed the townspeople's grapes into wine. And so, as if by magic, with a leap of a generation, a ‘return immigration’ journey of 1340 km and various incredible coincidences and astral conjunctions, almost 40 years later, history repeated itself.”
