Golerga, Vina Zorzal 2021

Golerga is Viña Zorzal's village wine from Lerga, a different zone of Navarra that sits at higher altitude with more rainfall than the rest of the region. These are conditions that produce Garnacha with more freshness and finesse than you'd expect from northern Spain.

The vines here are planted at around 600 metres above sea level, and for years the fruit was either made into rosé or blended with grapes from elsewhere. Viña Zorzal saw the potential in these parcels and started bottling them separately, proving that Lerga deserves attention in its own right.

What you get is pure, expressive Garnacha – red fruit, herbs, a touch of spice, and that mountain freshness that keeps everything lifted and precise. It ferments in concrete and stainless steel, then matures in 500-litre French oak barrels and concrete. The result is a wine with complexity and depth, fine tannins, and a long finish that shows real purity and intensity.

This is Garnacha that's all about finesse rather than power. The altitude and climate give it a different character from the warmer, riper styles you often find in Spain. It's the kind of wine that works beautifully with food – roasted meats, grilled vegetables, aged cheeses – but has enough going on to enjoy on its own.

Serve it at room temperature or slightly cool, and give it some air if you have time. It's drinking beautifully now.
