Spira is Domaine Ligas' unique wine – a blanc de noir (white wine made from red grapes) made solely from the local red grape Xinomavro from Pella, Greece. This wine has been made in a solera system from 2012 until 2019, which means the wine is a blend of ten vintages. The result is a complex and detailed wine that marries great intensity of flavour with delicacy.

The wine is a pale copper colour with notes of white cherry, stone fruit, orange peel, tomato, and a mineral finish. Seriously – what a wine!

Domaine Ligas is a small family winery working with biodynamic and permaculture in the vineyards. They are located in the historic region of Pella, which is close to the city of Thessaloniki. The winery was established in 1985 by Thomas Ligas (the father), his daughter Meli manages the winery and makes the wines. The wines are made with low intervention – there is no filtration or fining, no use of sulphur in any part of the winemaking. They work with a number of grape varietals that are indigenous to the area.

What you get is an extremely rare and unique wine – a blanc de noir made in a solera system blending ten vintages from 2012 to 2019. This creates layers of complexity and detail that are genuinely extraordinary.
