Ca' di Mat Los Peros Garnacha 2019

Los Peros is Ca' di Mat's expression of 100% Garnacha from Sierra de Gredos, Spain. This is the third wine we have in the range from Ca' di Mat and a step up in terms of intensity, complexity, and body to the Valautin Garnacha. Full-bodied, elegant, fine, and complex. The nose is aromatic and full of perfume, spice, and red fruits and the palate is balanced and harmonious with good length!

All the grapes come from a single vineyard in San Martín de Valdeiglesias. All from bush vines that are a minimum of 80 years of age, planted on granite soils. The wine is aged in a combination of concrete and 500l barrels. The old bush vines on granite bring concentration, minerality, and complexity, while the combination of concrete and large oak aging preserves freshness while adding structure and integration.

Ca' di Mat is one of the projects of Jesús Olivares and Curro Bareño (also behind Fedellos do Couto in Ribeira Sacra and Peixes in Galicia). Sierra de Gredos has emerged as one of Spain's most exciting wine regions, known for its high-altitude, old-vine Garnacha planted on granite soils. The combination of altitude, granite, and old vines creates wines with incredible freshness, minerality, and complexity.

What you get is full-bodied, elegant, fine, and complex Garnacha with aromatic nose full of perfume, spice, and red fruits. The palate is balanced and harmonious with good length. This is a step up from the entry-level Valautin – more intensity, more complexity, more body – showing what old-vine Garnacha from a single vineyard can achieve.
