Terra Brum, Adega do Vulcao 2022

Terra Brum is a blend from two tiny single vineyards, made the same way as Pé do Monte but with its own distinct character. The vines here are 60 to 70 years old and sit just 100 metres from the sea – about as close as you can get without being in it. That proximity to the Atlantic shapes everything about this wine.

Like Pé do Monte, this is one for Chablis drinkers. There's that same tension between fruit and minerality, the same precision and energy, but with an even more pronounced saline quality from being so close to the ocean. The volcanic soils give it structure and depth, while the old vines bring texture and complexity you don't find in younger plantings.

Adega do Vulcão uses the same minimal-intervention approach across their range, letting the fruit and the site express themselves without interference. You get citrus, stone fruit, that distinctive Atlantic saltiness, and a volcanic tension that keeps everything lifted and precise. It's the kind of wine that tastes like where it comes from.

Only 1,500 bottles were made. If you're curious about how different vineyard sites express themselves, this is a brilliant wine to buy alongside Pé do Monte. Both are made the same way, but the differences in location – one in the mountain foothills, one right by the sea – show up clearly in the glass. It's a rare chance to compare two exceptional sites from the same producer.
