Peña La Mora 1er, Comando G 2022

Peña La Mora is one of Comando G's single-vineyard wines – a window into what makes the Sierra de Gredos so special. This is old-vine Garnacha from a specific site, farmed organically and vinified with minimal intervention to let the place speak for itself.

The '1er' designation isn't about Burgundian hierarchy – it's Comando G's way of marking their single-vineyard bottlings, wines that come from parcels they believe have something distinct to say. Peña La Mora is one of those sites, planted at high altitude on granite soils that give the wine its characteristic tension and minerality.

What you get is Garnacha with depth and structure – red fruit, wild herbs, a stony minerality, and that mountain freshness that defines the region. It's elegant rather than powerful, with fine tannins and the kind of balance that makes you want to keep drinking. There's enough going on to make it interesting, but nothing feels forced or overdone.

Fernando García and Daniel Landi have been working these vineyards since 2008, rescuing old parcels that were largely abandoned and proving that the Gredos can produce wines that rival anything in Spain. Peña La Mora is part of that story – a wine that shows what happens when you combine great fruit, thoughtful farming, and a light touch in the cellar.

It's approachable now but has the structure to age. Serve it slightly cool and give it some air.
