Campo da Calcio – 'football field' in Italian – is Masiero's pure Merlot from the hills around Trissino in Veneto. The name comes from the vineyard's location next to an old football pitch, and it's a reminder that not all great wine needs to take itself too seriously.

Masiero was established in 2000 on volcanic soils at around 400 metres altitude, where a natural amphitheatre facing southeast creates ideal conditions for growing grapes. They farm biodynamically, avoiding any chemical intervention that could alter the microclimate or destroy the vitality of the soil. It's the kind of hands-on, thoughtful farming that you can taste in the wine.

Campo da Calcio is juicy, bright, and fresh – full of fruit and spice. The grapes macerate in concrete barrels for a few days before fermenting, then after a soft pressing, the wine is left to age until bottling. The result is Merlot with energy and character, showing what the grape can do when it's grown in the right place and handled with care.

In 2014, Masiero started a project to recover old vines of various varieties in the countryside around Sant'Urbano di Montecchio Maggiore, proving their commitment to preserving Veneto's winemaking heritage. Campo da Calcio is part of that story – honest, drinkable, and genuinely enjoyable.

Serve it at room temperature or slightly cool. It works beautifully with pasta, grilled meats, or pizza – the kind of food you'd eat after a game on that football field.
