La Bruja, Comando G 2023

La Bruja – 'The Witch' – is Comando G's entry-level wine, and it's a brilliant introduction to what they do. Made from Garnacha grown across multiple villages in the Sierra de Gredos, it's a blend that captures the energy and freshness of these high-altitude vineyards without the price tag of the single-village or single-vineyard bottlings.

The fruit comes from old vines planted on granite soils at over 1,000 metres, all farmed organically and worked by hand. Fernando García and Daniel Landi have been rescuing these forgotten parcels since 2008, proving that the Gredos can produce wines that rival anything in Spain. La Bruja is where that story begins.

What you get is pure, energetic Garnacha – red fruit, wild herbs, a touch of spice, and that characteristic mountain lift that keeps everything bright and easy to drink. There's structure here, but nothing heavy or overdone. The tannins are fine, the acidity is lively, and it's the kind of wine that works just as well on a Tuesday night as it does at a dinner party.

Comando G keeps things minimal in the cellar – native yeasts, old barrels, no fining or filtration. The focus is on expressing the character of these high-altitude sites, and La Bruja does exactly that. It's approachable now and drinks beautifully young.

Serve it slightly cool and don't overthink it. This is what great-value Spanish wine looks like.
