Gustinella 'Vino di Confine' Rosso 2023

Sonia's wines are a beautiful combination of purity, delicacy and mineral. 

Vino di Confine is the symbolic wine of Maletto, obtained from grapes grown in a small vineyard at 1100 meters above sea sea l.a., where centenary vines breeded with the ancient system of the Etnea tree coexist.

A dozen different varieties of white berries (50% - mainly Grecanico Dorato) and black (50% - mainly Grenache) vinified together, as no oenological practice teaches, but as local tradition dictates. After de-sizing, the grapes are gently crushed and macerated for a couple of days.

The intense red color is linked not to the maceration but to the presence of a few clusters of Alicante Bouchè, a dye grape variety that releases its color at the time of pressing.

Once the natural fermentation is finished, with indigenous yeasts, it follows the aging in concrete barrels and thes for about ten months and in the bottle for about eight months.

“Are you the Granddaughter of Gustinello? Thus began my love affair with the vineyards of Maletto. All the elders who took part in my little wine adventure used to ask me this question to identify where I belonged. Because everyone knew Peppe Gustinello. 

In fact, my grandfather owned the town's Palmento, a sort of ancestor of the Cantina Sociale, which at harvest time transformed the townspeople's grapes into wine. And so, as if by magic, with a leap of a generation, a ‘return immigration’ journey of 1340 km and various incredible coincidences and astral conjunctions, almost 40 years later, history repeated itself.”
