Rampante is one of Vino di Anna's single-vineyard wines from Mount Etna, made from old-vine Nerello Mascalese grown at high altitude on the volcano's northern slopes. This is Etna red at its most expressive – elegant, mineral-driven, and genuinely compelling.
Anna Martens and her team have been working on Etna since 2010, focusing on indigenous varieties and minimal intervention winemaking. Rampante comes from a specific parcel of old vines that produces fruit with real depth and character. The volcanic soils give the wine its distinctive mineral edge, while the altitude keeps everything fresh and precise.
What you get is pure Nerello Mascalese – red berries, roses, herbs, a touch of volcanic ash, and that characteristic tension that makes Etna wines so distinctive. There's structure here – fine tannins and bright acidity – but nothing feels heavy or overdone. It's the kind of wine that rewards attention, with layers of complexity that unfold as it opens up.
Vino di Anna farms organically and keeps things minimal in the cellar, letting the fruit express itself without interference. Rampante shows what Etna can do when the focus is on quality and terroir expression – it's elegant, food-friendly, and genuinely interesting.
This is a wine for Burgundy lovers who want to explore what volcanic soils can do. Serve it at room temperature or slightly cool, and give it some air. It works beautifully with mushrooms, game, grilled meats, or aged cheeses.
